Double Dutch Chocolate Brownies
Since many of our Keene customers have commented on the brownies in our Brownie Sundae (and Emily’s ‘Chocolate Goodness Sundae’), we thought it might be nice to share the recipe. It’s made with the very same Dutched cocoa that we use in our Double Dutch Chocolate and other chocolate-based flavors, but you can use readily available Dutched cocoa from the grocery store and achieve good results.
Double Dutch Chocolate Brownies
2/3 + 1/4 cups shortening
2 cups sugar
3/4 cup Dutched cocoa
4 eggs
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
Preheat oven to 350 and prepare a 9×13″ pan.
Blend shortening, sugar and cocoa together in large mixing bowl. Add eggs one at a time, blending thoroughly after each egg. Sift in remaining ingredients and mix well. Smooth into prepared pan and bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes. Brownies will be soft in center – do not over-bake. Store (if they aren’t gone before the day is out) in airtight container.
And, of course, they are best served warm with Walpole Creamery ice cream!
